Today I finally got a half decent shot of a Heron flying over Blue Heron Pond.....the pond which is at the end of our street! For the three years we have lived here this is the first time I've actually been there when a Heron flew over the pond! I was on my daily walk, and as has become my habit, I had my camera with me. Usually it's a bit of a bore trying to get some interesting or different shots around the pond, but a couple of days ago I spotted a white Heron and managed to get a couple of shots but they turned out disapointing as the bird just stood in the water all the time I was watching it! Each time it I tried to get a close up photo, it moved away....so lots of blurry shots for me!
Today however I was passing an area of bullrushes and just happened to notice the dark outline of another Heron standing in the water. Just as I lifted my camera to take the shot....he/she moved....unfurled the wings and took off across the pond. Luckily I managed to catch the shot but thought it would turn out to be too blurry....I was pleasantly surprised after cropping it quite a bit, to see that it actually turned out quite decently! They are such beautiful creatures when in flight. Oh how I wish though, that I had a more powerful camera and zoom lens!

That is a beautiful shot Andrea. You will become addicted. And it would not have the same feel if you zoomed too much. You would miss that feeling of flight. Some of my close ups are boring. How lucky you live so close to water. I would love that.
Great shot Andrea! I so understand your frustration with geating one of these birds on film! It has been my ongoing hunt all summer! Even when a heron flys over my acres each day...still no photo! :(
I love that you got him in flight over water!
